How to Convert Chase Bank Statements to CSV

Chase is the biggest bank in the US, and their statements are PDF-only. You can download recent transactions as CSV from their website, but full monthly statements? PDF. If you need older transactions or the complete statement with opening and closing balances, you'll need to convert the PDF.

Option 1: Download Recent Transactions from Chase

If you only need the last 90 days, Chase does let you download transaction data directly:

  1. Log in to chase.com and select your account
  2. Click the download icon in the account activity section
  3. Select "Spreadsheet (CSV)" as the format
  4. Pick your date range and download

This only covers recent activity. For full monthly statements, keep reading.

Option 2: Convert Chase PDFs with Statement Pro

  1. Download your statement from Chase: go to Statements & Documents, pick the month, save the PDF
  2. Upload it at statementpro.app
  3. It detects Chase automatically and runs a dedicated Chase parser (not generic OCR)
  4. Review and download as CSV or Excel

The Chase parser handles checking, savings, and credit card statements (Sapphire, Freedom, business cards, etc.).

What You Get

A properly converted Chase statement gives you:

  • Transaction dates
  • Full descriptions (merchant name and details)
  • Amounts with debits and credits correctly signed
  • Running balance (when the statement includes it)
  • Transaction types (debit, credit, fee)
  • Opening and closing balances

Tips

  • Always use PDFs downloaded directly from Chase. Scanned or photographed statements won't be as accurate.
  • Multi-page statements work fine.
  • Got multiple months? Use batch upload to do them all at once.

Getting Data into Accounting Software

  • QuickBooks Online: Import the CSV under Banking > Upload from file. Or connect Statement Pro directly to QuickBooks and skip the file.
  • Xero: Import under Bank Accounts > Import a Statement. Or push directly from Statement Pro.
  • Excel/Google Sheets: Just open the CSV.

FAQ

Does Chase offer CSV downloads of full statements?

No. Chase only lets you download recent activity as CSV (up to 90 days). Monthly statements are PDF-only.

Can I convert Chase credit card statements?

Yes. The parser handles both checking/savings and credit card formats.

How accurate is it?

Statement Pro has a parser built specifically for Chase's statement layout, so it knows exactly where to find dates, amounts, and descriptions. It's not guessing with generic OCR.
